Landscape Horticulture and Design

Students learn to design, build, and manage beautiful and functional landscapes using science-based practices that improve the living environment and contribute to environmental sustainability.

What is Landscape Horticulture and Design?

Landscape Designers are on the front line of environmental sustainability as they solve the real problems related to human development and use of natural resources. Our program will develop your ability to create, install, and maintain outdoor spaces that are beautiful, functional, environmentally sound, and cost effective!

Employers want YOU!

The green industry is one of the fastest growing sectors of the economy. The main factor limiting company growth in industry today is a shortage of qualified, enthusiastic team players. Landscape design firms, garden centers, and nurseries are eager to hire our students– they know that Virginia Tech grads are the best!

Every graduating class has 100% job placement. Graduates are most often employed by landscape nurseries, garden centers, building contractors, and landscape maintenance services. While some will be self-employed, others choose to work for municipalities, parks, arboreta, and shopping outlets.
