How children perceive and experience their environment is the focus of some studies (Hart, 1974; Ward, 1978; Moore, 1974). However, these are concerned with broad interpretations of environment such as phenomenal landscapes, cityscapes, and playgrounds. The focus of this study is more specific; how do children perceive a garden environment? It is hoped that this inquiry will facilitate garden designs that respond to children's preferences.
