General Scholarships

Undergraduate students in Horticulture at Virginia Tech receive over $50,000 in scholarship funds each year from generous donors and organizations. Many of these scholarships are endowed by Horticulture friends and alumni to support undergraduates in their pursuit of a career in Horticulture. In addition, Horticulture students are eligible for a host of scholarships from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. There are scholarships available for both new and advanced students. Many are specifically for students with particular career goals or from particular regions of the state. All students who would benefit from scholarship assistance are encouraged to see Tabitha Hartman in 301–C Saunders Hall for more information.

How to Apply

To apply for all of these scholarships, log in with your pid and password to Application deadline is January 22nd for consideration the following academic year. Only one form is needed to apply for all available scholarships within Horticulture and CALS.

Trees Virginia Scholarships For students with an expressed interest in a career related to studying, planning, designing, and conserving urban and community forests. $1,700 for an undergraduate at 4 year college, $1,500 for a graduate student. Garden Club of America Scholarships 28 merit based scholarships in 12 areas. Various application deadlines. More information.

The Association for Garden Communicators For students who want to pursue a career in horticultural communications. Awards range between $500 and $1000. Application deadline December 15, 2017. Application.

American Floral Endowment: Vic and Margaret Ball Intern Scholarship Program and Mosmiller Intern Scholarship Program Application deadline October 1, 2017. More information.

MAC–ISA Scholarship Santamour Scholarship for students interested in a career in arboriculture. Two $1,250 scholarships awarded. Application deadline September 15, 2017. Application.

Davey Arbor Grant Each year, Davey Tree Expert Company awards approximately 40 $1,000 scholarships (for tuition or books) to students seeking a degree in forestry, urban forestry, arboriculture and horticulture. Application deadline September 22, 2017. More information.

Sidney B. Meadows Scholarship Endowment Fund Twelve $1,500 scholarships for horticulture students in the southeast. Application deadline extended to June 12, 2017! More information.

John "Buster"Beier Memorial Excellence Fund This fund provides funding for undergraduate research, conference travel, study abroad travel, and unpaid co-ops and internships. All CALS majors are encouraged to apply, preference given to those in APSC major. Application deadline is February 1, 2017. Apply here.

Bartlett Tree Foundation Scholarships Two $1,000 scholarships. Submit a one page narrative, outlining your accomplishments, academic record and career aspirations. The Foundation selection committee will review the student’s narrative and notify you once the committee has made the selections.
