President's Awards for Excellence

Congratulations to Joyce Shelton for receiving one of 5 President's Awards for Excellence at a banquet at the Inn at Virginia Tech. This was awarded to her as a result of her "35 years of sustained and dedicated commitment to excellence, her strong work ethic, and the magnitude of her accomplishments."
Southern Nursery Association

Our students did quite well at the Southern Nursery Association Research
Conference, August 2006. Faculty and students from 20 states were in attendance
with about 175 papers or posters presented. There were 10 PhD papers and
Brian Jackson received 2nd place honors. There were 10 B.S. papers presented
and Thomas Saunders received 3rd place honors. Selection was based upon
quality of written paper and the quality of the oral presentation. Out
of 36 applicants for scholarships, 14 were awarded and our students received
4 $2500 scholarships: Thomas Saunders and Breanna Rau (Undergrad), Brian
Jackson and Jaime Crocker (Graduate students). We certainly were among
the top schools in terms of recognition.
Dr. Robert Wright served as a coach/mentor to the group.
