Incorporating horticulture into the science curriculum and linking to Science SOLs is easy since horticulture is a science. Plant life cycles and growth habits relate to all science disciplines including the basics: earth science, environmental science, biology, chemistry and physics. Plant and garden experiments are perfect to teach scientific methods often at a low cost. Gardens provide the perfect tool to introduce hands-on, experiential learning that is so important in the science curriculum. They encourage exploration and can stimulate an appreciation for nature. School gardens are a great way to get kids excited about science!
