English assignments can easily use a garden setting for inspiration and therefore link to
English SOLs . The garden can be used as a setting
to read plant and nature books to youth. Children can
hone writing skills by creating stories, garden poems and nature journals. They may practice their researching skills
when planning for their spring garden by investigating seed catalogs and recording plant cultural information. Youth
can develop oral presentation techniques by sharing information about the garden during a school assembly or
